Gold Silkscreen

Five archival silkscreen prints lay stacked and fresh from the press — each one a different colorway of Charlie Callahan's iconic sea urchin mandala, pulled onto heavy cold-press cotton watercolor paper that holds every dot and void with precision. Red screams tidal urgency. Grey whispers of fog over the Bolinas lagoon. Green pulses with the kelp forest below the surface. Mauve and indigo round out a chromatic range that feels both ancient and electric. This is not decoration — this is a mythology pressed into paper, signed by the artist, and built to last centuries. Callahan's urchin image is one of the most recognizable icons in Bay Area contemporary art, permanently installed at Outerlands in San Francisco's Outer Sunset and exhibited from Miami to Tokyo. The silkscreen edition brings that icon into an accessible, collectible format without sacrificing an ounce of its power. The photographic-quality texture of the urchin test — every pore and tubercle rendered in screaming ink — rewards close looking the way the shell itself rewards a beachcomber who stops to really see it. For the collector, this suite represents exceptional value: signed, limited, archival, and rooted in an artist whose market presence spans two decades of institutional and gallery shows. Whether acquired as individual colorways or as a complete chromatic set, these prints carry the full weight of Callahan's coastal vision — and the cultural urgency of an artist who has made the survival of the sea his life's work.
