The Essentials
Shots, lighting, composition & file quality
Clear, professional photos of your work are essential for selling anywhere โ not only on ARTS District USA. Your buyers need to see exactly what they're purchasing โ from the overall composition to the fine details of brushwork and texture.
The Six Shots You Need
๐ทStraight-on frontal (fills the frame)
๐Detail close-up #1 (key element or texture)
๐Detail close-up #2 (another area of interest)
๐Detail close-up #3 (signature or special technique)
๐45-degree angle shot (shows depth and canvas texture)
๐ผ๏ธBack-of-canvas or back-of-frame photo
LIGHTING
- ยทUse natural light. Shoot outdoors on overcast days or near a large window.
- ยทAvoid harsh shadows and direct sunlight.
- ยทNever use on-camera flash.
COMPOSITION
- ยทMake the artwork fill 80โ90% of the frame. No background clutter.
- ยทShoot straight-on for the main photo using a tripod or level.
- ยทFor detail shots, zoom in on interesting elements.
COLOR ACCURACY
- ยทAvoid filters and heavy editing. Keep colors as they appear in real life.
- ยทUse daylight or shade white balance, not auto.
FILE QUALITY
- ยทShoot in high resolution. Compress files over 10MB before uploading.
- ยทSave as JPG. Use PNG only for transparency.
