Confined

There is a particular kind of afternoon — the kind Dana Christensen has always been drawn to — when the light is low and the wind moves through an open window without warning, lifting a curtain and holding it, just for a moment, between stillness and flight. This image lives entirely inside that moment. The sheer fabric fans outward like wings, like breath, like something trying to leave and something trying to stay. Growing up on the East Coast and later falling in love with the vast openness of the American West, Dana has long been a student of threshold places — edges where one world meets another. Here the window frame, dark and grounded, holds space for something almost immaterial: light filtered through gauze, shadow pooling beneath translucent folds, the faint warmth of a golden bar where the sash meets the sill. It is a quietly interior image, and yet it hums with the presence of outside air. Through her altered photographic process, Dana transforms this fleeting domestic scene into something enduring and deeply felt. The tonal restraint — all cool greys and warm whites against near-black shadow — carries the emotional weight of memory itself: imprecise, luminous, and always moving just beyond our grasp.
