Natural Bridge

Painted at Bryce Canyon's Natural Bridge overlook in late winter, snow still holding in the shaded folds of the rock while the canyon's signature orange stone catches full sun. Two young pines anchor the foreground, placed deliberately to give the eye scale against the arch's true size — the opening runs nearly a hundred feet across. Through the bridge itself, a stand of dark evergreen forest sits framed by hazy, distant peaks. Dated 2015, this is an earlier piece in her National Parks series, already showing the accurate color and smooth line she'd go on to sharpen under Master Jiun Pan's continuing influence. The real subject of the painting is the contrast between hot stone and cold snow.
