"Platte"

This is watercolor at full throttle — John Beuttler unleashing decades of Southwest landscape immersion into a single, explosive composition. Sweeping arcs of deep burgundy and burnt sienna collide with luminous amber, creating a centrifugal force that pulls the eye through the canvas with unstoppable momentum. This is not a quiet painting. It demands a wall worthy of it. Beuttler's MFA-trained command of the medium is on full display here — fluid washes that bloom and pool with intention, razor-thin lines of bare paper cutting through the dark passages like arroyos through desert rock. The loose, gestural freedom he calls his 'Impressions' is alive in every brushstroke, every bleed, every deliberate release of control. It is the work of an artist who has painted on location, worked in film, and knows exactly how light moves. For the discerning collector, this piece represents the rare intersection of formal mastery and authentic spontaneity. Beuttler's works are held in private collections across the US, and abstract watercolors of this scale and emotional intensity are increasingly sought after. Hang it, live with it — it will never look the same twice.
