He's been late before, but tonight the White Rabbit isn't rushing anywhere. He floats — red jacket open, cocktail in hand, top hat tucked under one arm — through a sky that can't quite decide if it's dawn or dusk, the horizon burning amber beneath a ceiling of soft drifting clouds. He has the unhurried confidence of someone who stopped checking the clock long ago and started trusting the fall instead. Around him, the world assembles itself in the way dreams do: a woman with cascading golden hair reaches toward him, her jewels catching the light; a tiny figure in white drifts overhead with a parasol; a striped, coiling creature peers down from the upper clouds with knowing golden eyes. This is Kat Tatz's Wonderland, grown up and dressed for the Vegas strip. It carries the DNA of her childhood — the neon, the showgirls, the spectacle of transformation — filtered through a sensibility that is entirely her own. The mushrooms don't stay on the canvas; they push through the frame in three dimensions, glowing red and white-spotted like something from the forest floor of a fever dream. Resin bubbles drift across the dark wood of the frame itself, blurring the line between painting and the room it hangs in, between story and the wall that holds it.
