Yucca and Black Buttes

**Yucca and Black Buttes** Under a brilliant blue sky, clusters of yucca rise from a sun-warmed landscape of golden yellow and ochre. Their distinctive spiky leaves radiate outward, creating lively patterns against the open desert setting, while delicate pink and white blossoms add an unexpected softness to the rugged plants. In the distance, the dark, striped silhouettes of the Black Buttes anchor the composition and establish a strong sense of the American West. This mixed-media painting combines expressive brushwork, layered collage, and botanical imagery to capture the character of a familiar Western landscape. The blossoms incorporate fragments of printed paper, adding texture and a touch of visual surprise. Bold bands of color, energetic lines, and contrasting organic and geometric shapes give the composition both movement and structure. Celebrating the humble beauty of native plants and the landscapes they call home, *Yucca and Black Buttes* is a colorful reminder that the most memorable details of a place are often found in the things we encounter every day. It brings together the resilience of the desert, the warmth of the Western landscape, and the quiet beauty of its wildflowers.
