Floating Homes

Every morning Leslie Allen walks into her studio in Sausalito's Marinship district — a place built in wartime urgency, where workers once shaped steel hulls along the bay — and she listens. She listens to the light on the water, to the geometry of the buildings, to the memory held in the timber and rivets. This painting is that listening made visible. The olive sky isn't just atmosphere; it's the particular green-grey of a Bay Area morning pressing down on history. The ochre ground isn't just colour; it's the rust and earth of a working waterfront that never quite lets go.
