Smokin' Chimp

There's a particular kind of cool that can't be taught — the kind worn by someone who has nothing left to prove. Rocky Asbury found that energy and pressed it straight onto canvas. 'Smokin' Chimp' began, like so much of Rocky's work, with a feeling: the image of a figure so utterly at ease with himself that the chaos swirling around him barely registers. Cigar in mouth, half-lidded eyes, bow tie slightly askew — this chimp isn't performing. He simply is. Behind him, the world pulses in coral and gold chevrons — restless, electric, almost anxious — while neon pink sine waves crest overhead like a frequency only he can hear. Teal marks scatter the edges like graffiti left by someone who had something to say but didn't need you to understand it. It is Rocky's world in miniature: the ordered and the chaotic, the refined and the raw, existing not in tension but in perfect, beautiful harmony. At its heart, 'Smokin' Chimp' is about confidence born not from perfection but from total self-acceptance. Rocky built his entire artistic identity on that same foundation — walking away from the expected, trusting the mess, and finding something truer on the other side. The chimp just gets it.
