Flight of the Little Souls

This is Sherri Lynn Carroll at full throttle — a luminous, large-scale acrylic that pulls you into a swirling vortex of violet pansies, gilded copper vines, and five distinct butterflies caught mid-dance against a sky of electric cobalt and aquamarine. The composition surges upward with unstoppable momentum: sinuous golden tendrils coil and curl like living calligraphy, ribbons of lavender silk spiral through the upper register, and each butterfly — from the russet-winged monarch at top left to the jewel-blue specimen hovering at center right — is rendered with the kind of photorealistic precision that only comes from thirty-plus years of disciplined practice. Carroll's signature Lively Vortex energy is everywhere here: scattered star-dots of white light dust the petals like sea-spray, the oversized pansy blooms glow with an inner purple fire edged in frosted white, and small red plumeria at the base anchor the fantasy in the warm floral world of Kailua. This is a painting that commands a room — bold enough to anchor a statement wall, detailed enough to reward the viewer who steps close. For collectors seeking original acrylic works that bridge surrealist fantasy and botanical precision, this piece represents exceptional value from one of Hawaiʻi's most distinctive working artists. Carroll's originals are increasingly sought after, and works of this chromatic ambition and vertical scale are rare in her catalog.
