Gaia

This is Sherri Lynn Carroll at the absolute height of her Lively Vortex energy — a canvas that practically vibrates off the wall. Glowing orange jellyfish spiral and pulse against a lush emerald-and-cobalt underwater dreamscape, while three striped nautiluses glide with ancient, unhurried grace. At the heart of the composition, two kalimbas — thumb pianos painted in warm amber and adorned with intricate dotwork — float as if the ocean itself has been making music all along. Plumeria blossoms drift between the currents like offerings, and scattered white dots of bioluminescence stud the deep like a thousand tiny stars. The piece is titled 'Gaia' — and it earns that name. Every inch of this large acrylic pulses with the conviction that the natural world is alive, musical, and sacred. Carroll's photorealistic watercolor training shows in the precise spiral patterns on the nautilus shells and the dotted ornamentation of the kalimbas, while her surrealist imagination sets them free into a world where music instruments grow from the seafloor and jellyfish are the orchestra. For collectors who want a statement piece that commands a room and holds its secrets — a painting you keep discovering — 'Gaia' is a defining work from one of Hawaii's most original voices. Bold, joyful, and layered with meaning, this is the kind of original acrylic that anchors a collection.
