Pink Dahlia Against Dark Green

Pink Dahlia Against Dark Green is an explosion of petals. The dahlia fills the frame in twisting, ruffled forms of pink, rose and cream, some petals curling outward, some folding back like ribbons, while a deep, blurred green background lets every edge stand out. Tim Burns finds abstraction everywhere in nature, and this flower shows how. Seen up close, the bloom becomes a dance of shapes and soft color gradations, almost like a sculpture in motion. It reflects his eye as a former ceramic sculptor: he sees volume, rhythm and the way light travels over a curved surface. From his Flowers series, this is one of the most playful and energetic works in his portfolio. Behind acrylic glass the pinks gain luminosity and the dark green turns rich and calm. It brings joy and life to a living room, kitchen or child's room, and works well as a colorful counterpoint to his quieter seascapes.
