Somewhere in the layered wax and light of this piece, a macaw lifts free of the canopy — wings flung wide, tail feathers streaming blue and violet, the jungle falling away beneath it. Trisha Keefe began where she always begins: with her own eye and her own camera, finding the image that wanted to be found. She printed it, mounted it on wood, and then began the slow, meditative work of encaustic — pressing hot wax into the surface, building depth and warmth and luminosity one layer at a time, pausing to listen to what the piece was asking for next. For Trisha, this bird is not simply wildlife captured on a surface. It is a messenger from the world of elementals she has always felt moving beneath the visible — the hidden life she spent forty years tending as a healer and now tends through wax and light. The golden chest, the fire-bright wings, the cool intelligence in that curved beak: these are the details she worked prayer into as much as pigment. Each pass of the iron, each addition of color to the cooled wax, was an act of intention as much as craft. To stand before this piece is to feel that intention. The macaw does not wait for you — it is already in motion, already crossing from one world into the next. But it turns its head, just slightly, as if to ask whether you are ready to follow.
