Dualism

She tilts her head back as if receiving something — light, breath, release. The figure at the center of this painting is not posed; she is mid-transformation, caught between the weight she carries and the sky she is reaching toward. Zorica Pavićević painted her in blues so deep they border on black, then pulled teal and cobalt forward through the body until the whole form seems to hold its own interior light. The warm, sandy ground that surrounds her is not emptiness — it is the world she is rising out of. There are marks buried inside the figure that do not announce themselves. Lines that could be cracks, or veins, or the floor plans of buildings. Zorica trained as an architect for decades before she became a full-time painter, and she has never stopped building — she simply changed her materials. Here the structure is a woman's body, layered with texture and hidden symbols the way a city is layered with history. The longer you look, the more you find. This is a painting about becoming.
